Re: 2018 Giants

I'm a little late to this but could you post car #33? Dark red/burnt orange colored BMW.

Thanks!

Re: Car classification and whatnot.

Welcome. I am also in SMX, but much slower than the rest of the SMX pack in my SBC swapped '98 BMW. I only made it to two hill climbs this season due to a spun rod bearing at a track event at Mid-Ohio halfway through the season, but I can tell you its great fun and the people are awesome at these ev...

Pre-inspection, and other odds and ends

Hi guys, I am finally almost ready to run in the PHA (I hope) with my BMW 323is/Chevy 350 swap. About 1.5 years ago I introduced myself to the forum (http://www.pahillclimb.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3306) and shared about building an SMX class car. I'm in the last stages of the build and my ...

Event Registration

I'm still building my SMX class car for hill climbs but am hoping to participate the second half of this season. I was checking out the event registration for the first two events of this year and I noticed that the SMX class is not listed as one of the Run Groups. Would I not be able to participate...

Re: Car Classifications and other Questions

Misfit Autowerks in Washington built my roll bar. They're a pretty new shop, but they've had a couple hillclimb cars in there now. They're building a cage now for their shop's AE86 Corolla with an Infiniti V8 swap... I got a deal on Sparco racing gear (suit, gloves, socks, shoes) through Moore Perf...

Re: Car Classifications and other Questions

Thanks for the info. I will need to get going on my chassis then. Yeah I am anticipating possible hood clearance issues. I've seen guys who make them fit, and guys who dont. If I run a flat bottom pan I might be able to get the motor low enough. I'm probably going to run a Victor Jr. intake and they...

Re: Car Classifications and other Questions

I have a pretty shitty build thread on another site, not much detail but it's something http://www.steelcitymusclecars.com/forums/showthread.php/31992-E36-M3-LS1-T56-swap Most of the info I got was from Bimmerforums and LS1tech. Swap was pretty easy. Used CXRacing kit, decent for the money but the ...

Re: Car Classifications and other Questions

Very cool. Will you have it ready for the first event? Any more details on the build? Mine is my wife's former BSP auto M3. Stole it from her and prepping it for SMX. LS1 T56, cam tune simple combo. Cool. That's what I wanted to do but didn't have the budget for it. The nice thing about the SBC is ...

Mark Aubele wrote:So there will be two LS swapped E36s in SMX this year? Cool.
I'm going kind of a weird direction and running a carb'ed SBC from a '77 Vette in the E36. I know its not quite as light as the LSx motor, but it was a cheaper option and I think it can still be fun.

Re: Car Classifications and other Questions

Hey guys, I'm slowly getting my car prepared for the upcoming hillclimb season. I'm making sure that I stay compliant with the SMX class. On another note though, I have some questions about safety equipment that I thought I should get answered or at least get opinions on. I am trying to figure out w...

Re: Car Classifications and other Questions

Hey guys I had a few more questions about hill climb weekends. 1. On average, how many runs does one get per day? 2. On average, how many participants are there per weekend? I noticed the event entry forms state a limit of so many people. Do the events usually cap out? 3. Where do you guys stay? Ca...

Re: Car Classifications and other Questions

I didn't mean to suggest that you think about converting the Cabrio to race. I just wanted to establish a connection as to where you are coming from. Just in case things don't work out with the BMW and you want to continue with the VW theme! I have 2, MKII chassis. Pretty much stripped out. One ver...

Re: Car Classifications and other Questions

dspgti, its all good. VWs are awesome. I understand the logic of balance between power and handling, and I see where you are coming from. I'm not trying to sound like boy racer, I'm just a guy with his head spinning from all the rules and classes and appendices and categories! I'm not out to break r...

Re: Car Classifications and other Questions

An XP car (it is an autocross class) would end up (usually) in SMX. It is sort of like a Street Modified that allows engine swaps across manufacturers. The class requires a full cage. This is a class that was new for '16 that was added specifically to give the swapped cars a place to run without be...

Re: Car Classifications and other Questions

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for my continued ignorance. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the massive amount of classes and categories of racing that there are in the SCCA. So I have done quite a bit more digging after you suggested looking at the solo classes and the E36 BMW with a SBC motor ...

Car Classifications and other Questions

Hello everyone! I am looking to finally take the steps to get into sanctioned racing, and hill climbs look like a ton of fun and good way to start. I don't have much of an interest in autocross, so I'd rather go this route. I'm from Butler, PA just north of Pittsburgh, so its pretty awesome to have ...
