2005 WEATHERLY HILLCLIMB

FANTASTIC FALL FINALE

The 2005 Fall Weatherly Hillclimb was indeed a fitting finale for a fantastic series of events in the inaugural season for SCCA’s new TIME TRIALS Program.

Excellent weather, gracious hosts (The Weatherly Hillclimb Assoc.), great parties, no major incidents or delays, and a surfeit of timed runs made this an event to reminisce on over the long winter ahead.

Seventy-five drivers competing in thirty-seven classes set eight class records during twelve! timed runs over the course of the weekend.

The following drivers set class records in their separate classes: in ITA, Mike Ancas in a Neon at 62.714; in ITE, Gordon Wise in a Mazda at 57.337; in STMOD 2, at 60.079 in a Toyota MR2, Jeff Fazio; in GT LITE, Bob Oswald, Sr. in a VW at 61.164; in F ATL, Darryl Danko at 51.382 in a Swift; in FSV, Ted Klaus in a Wheeler at 57.679; in RALLY, Al Corazzo at 61.571 in a Subaru; and, in H2, Peter Stillwell in a Porsche at 62.668.

Darryl Danko’s new class record was also FTD for the event.

Registration and Tech. Friday evening at Eurana Park reportedly went well, and the party at Joe Cyburt’s boathouse was awesome as usual.

Saturday’s weather was good and, after the driver’s meeting and touring runs, timed runs commenced and continued through the day- barring some unfortunate off-course excursions.

This driver arrived on Sunday to great weather and a fast course!

Following a brief driver’s meeting, competitors, workers, and spectators alike were treated to a day of fast runs with no major delays or incidents, tasty food at the various venders, a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, and an event total of twelve timed runs!

Thanks to the Weatherly Hillclimb Assoc., the event officials and workers, and the competitors and their crews for a great finish to a fantastic season!

The following are observations of happenings on the hill- both this driver’s and those related to him by others… Sarah Koneschusky’s rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” was beautiful and most moving.  Tony Preston had an off-course excursion…he’s okay and the car can be fixed.  Morgan, sorry I missed you.  Reportedly, some of our younger enthusiasts saw “Gumball Rally” for the first time.  Crystal Whisler beat her grandpa Don DeHart in his RX7, and Mary Anne Fieux beat Chuck Christ in his Saab!  Gentlemen!  Let’s get our acts together!  At least Adrienne Vrabel and Grace Huntzinger showed the proper respect for their respective male co-drivers by letting them win.  Ted Klaus is one fast senior citizen.  John Pitman took his last run in his purple FV.  The difference between first and second in ITB was 5 hundredths of a second!  Thanks to the wonderful ladies who made us cream puffs and French toast.  Weatherly, we’ll see you next year and it won’t be soon enough!

November 19th is the date for the PHA Banquet where we gather to eat, drink, enjoy each other’s company and honor our champions.

See you at the Banquet!                                    Joe Foering, #37
